About us
As with most new ideas, they are born from a need to improve an existing product. The old saying “necessity is the mother of invention,” is how the EEEZPoucH was born.
Having been an open water diver for more than twenty years and being a West Coast diver (cold waters), it was necessary that I dive with a 6 mm to 7mm wetsuit. That, of course, meant more weight in the weight pouches to accommodate the associated buoyancy of a thick wetsuit.I was still diving with my first BCD, a Dacor Rig, which had served me fine but was well past its lifecycle; the weight pouches would not stay locked into the BC (they were held in with Velcro) and the same was true for the cummerbund which would no longer stay closed. Thus, it was time to search for a more modern, sleek, and comfortable design.
After doing lots of research and consulting with friends, including the staff of the dive shop I do much of my business with, I chose the Scubapro Hydros Pro. It checked all the boxes and was amazingly comfortable.
My first dive with the new BCD was in Southern California at one of my favorite dive spots, Casino Point in Avalon. Water temperatures were in the low 60’s and I wore my 6.5 mil farmer john wetsuit and hood. I’d calculated that nine pounds per pouch and six pounds of trim weight should do the trick. All was perfect until I tried to insert the weighted pouches into the BCD pockets. After what seemed like an eternity, I FINALLY got both pouches locked into the BCD but was exhausted in the process!
After that dive, I spoke with a few other divers, including an Avalon based dive store owner and Master Diver who also uses the Hydros Pro. When questioned if he too had difficulty inserted the weighted pouches into his BCD, he responded in the affirmative saying the only way he found to deal with this issue was to place the BCD on a ledge, insert the weight pouches into the BCD, THEN climb into it. That was when I realized a new idea was necessary - an improvement was needed, and not just for me, but for the great many scuba divers who experience this same challenge.
Over the next year and a half several iterations of the EEEZPoucH were built, beta tested and improved upon until the product offered today was finalized. More than 600 open water dives have been done by professional and recreational divers using the EEEZPoucH. The evaluations have been nothing less than outstanding.
